Our Constitutional rights should not be limited when we step foot on a college campus as Adults. A 21 year old in the United States can legally carry a gun under a concealed carry permit. Meaning, these people are authorized to carry in most public places, so how is a college campus separate or different in the means of self defense? In fact, other states have implemented campus carry with little to no negative outcomes. Studies prove that 98% of gun violence happen in gun free zones, and we've seen it in recent news. Our American Cities, Chicago, Washington DC, and Detroit have the toughest gun laws in the country, yet the highest crime rates. Out of the United States, we've watched major terrorist attacks unfold before our eyes in London, another place with extreme guns laws. In times of trouble where seconds count, a single student with a gun can save hundreds. As adults, we have to trust each other to behave like adults and as women I feel as if it's my right to protect myself and protect others on campus when necessary.
Actually, there was an act enacted by Congress called the Gun-Free School Zone Act of 1990 which strictly prohibits firearms from being within 1,000 feet of school zones. There's nothing that CNU can do abut this - they would be breaking the law if they allowed students to carry guns on campus, since technically a college campus qualifies as a school zone.
Amen! Wish someone with authority would listen to this and address it.
