Can we have a designated smoking area please?
I love our campus and its so beautiful, but its kinda gets ruined when I walk outside and am hit in the face by a gigantic cloud of cigarette smoke OR when I'm in my room with the window open and people are just outside the building smoking and it all comes inside. I don't care whether or not people smoke, but it would be nice if there were specific areas for the smokers that nonsmokers/people with sensitive asthma could avoid and keep the smoke from going all over campus.

I think that building little areas for people to smoke would be helpful for the smokers and non-smokers alike. Non-smokers don't have to inhale second-hand, and the smokers have a place to chill outside, rain or shine. I personally don't smoke, or encourage it, but I feel bad for people who are standing outside in the rain because they need their cigarette.

@Tori, that still doesn't mean that we can't have places for them to go. You're right, CNU can't "force" them to smoke there, but it can have them ready and set up and ask they be used. Then the as trays could be moved to those areas, to encourage people to use them. I'm not saying 'round em up and force them to use them, i'm saying give them the option to smoke away from the buildings, as opposed to the ashtrays right outside the buildings.

Joseph, as a delegate in the student assembly I can tell you that this issue has been brought up before and faculty advised us that CNU is public property and can only suggest places for people to smoke such as the ash trays. Other places, such as King's Dominion for example, are private property which is why they can declare that smoking is only permitted in certain areas.

They can get ticketed if they're seen not using them. It's not about convenience, it's disgusting and should not be forced on people who don't want it near them.

The only downfall to this idea is that building these kinds of structures are not monetarily efficient. You'd need at least 6 on main campus alone. Otherwise, students won't use them because they're not convenient enough.

It's not public property, it's university property and university rules.

A designated, covered area for smokers is a good idea but people have to understand the CNU is public property meaning that nobody can enforce smokers to smoke anywhere outside, they can just suggest areas.

As a smoker, I cannot agree more. Preferably, someplace with a roof over it so we can stand outside in the rain and not have to stand super close to the doors, which is when it seeps in the worst.

This would be the best thing ever.
